Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and not just because it’s been hours since you last ate, and you are really hungry when you wake up. During the night while we sleep, our bodies are still working. Our organs, tissues, and cells keep functioning, and they need fuel in order to function well. That means that the nutrients stored within our body are utilized at night, and we need to replenish the supply in the morning.
In addition, starting the day with a healthy breakfast provides the necessary nutrients needed to start the day. Eating a healthy breakfast restores the glucose level of the body, which gives us energy, and it also stimulates brain activity, which ensures higher concentration, better focus, and makes us more productive and more physically active.
A healthy breakfast should include whole grains, some sort of fruit, protein, and dairy.
Examples of this type of menu would be:
- Whole-wheat toast, eggs, lean meat sausage, yogurt, and fruit juice.
- Whole grain cereal or oatmeal, fresh or frozen fruit, and a glass of low fat milk.
